The Return of the Teen

A week ago today, I said goodbye to Weston as he left on a quest. Was this a quest to destroy a ring and save a kingdom? Or a quest to defeat a gold-hoarding dragon?

Nay. This was a quest to test his fortitude in the absence of a bathroom, a quest to find if he could fall asleep without the whirring sound of a fan but with the screech of forest animals, a quest to prove his mother wrong when she said, "Maybe you should take a long-sleeved shirt in case you get cold." Indeed, it was a quest to prove his manhood.

I am happy to say, he succeeded in his quest. He arrived home yesterday, blistered, sunburned, and exhausted.

The first three days of the fifty mile hike, he trudged uphill in the rain. He drank water (filtered, of course) from cold running streams. He slept on the ground without a pillow. He hiked in boots that started to come apart at the heel. And he brought his iPhone so he could take pictures!  Yay!

Enjoy the beauty of the high Uintas of Utah.

  2. Just lost my second comment - will try again. :( Hope my other two aren't in moderation or you'll laugh at how all the different versions are shrinking! For some reason, this happens with all Blogger blogs I try and comment on these days.

Short version - I am so, so glad you and your wonderful words and photos are back!! I really missed being able to share your life and thoughts. Off to make a coffee now and catch up! Haven't even read this post yet - just rushed to the comments to say Yay!!

    1. Oh, sorry about the comment moderation. I had to do it because I was getting lots of spam, including links to naughty sites, posted in my comments. But I was so happy to open my email and see that I had lots of comments awaiting! What fun! I'm always happy to see your name in my comment section.

    2. It's not your comment moderation - it's a Blogger thing. It happens with other blogs, too. I take the Name/URL option then press PUBLISH and it disappears. Then I sign in with my loathesome google account - I hate how google wants everything you do to be connected - press PUBLISH and it disappears. Third time round, I get the comment awaiting moderation message. It's not you m'dear! I have comment moderation, too. These days, you have to.

  3. STUNNING photos!!!! Weston has inherited your creative talent! Please tell him well done from me, for the photos and for such an achievement. What beautiful country! Some of those are crying out "Paint me! Paint me!"

    1. I told him "well done" from you and he was quite pleased with the compliment. I know what you mean about some of them needing to be painted. I looked at some of the water ones and thought of Ken Devine who makes water come alive in his paintings.

You won't be paid for it, but at least you'll know that you have contributed intelligence to the universe...
